Will tera cota skew test results?

Hello all. I finally got the new 5g hex set up at the office. I made a great cave system with three small tera cota pots that I used aquarium silicone to put together. The beta loves it! That said.....I seeded the new tank with filter media and gravel from our established 30g, and when I test for ammonia....it shows to be .5 and clouds up in the vial after about 20 seconds, and there is small orange debris floating all in it. The tank water itself looks relatively clear. It has been running for a week, and I've done two 50% water changes. Do ya'll think this is due to the pots? They were brand new,and I boiled them for a good 30 min. prior to working with them.

Any advice? And how long should it take a seeded 5g to level out?

Will do another 50% change after work today. Sure is puzzling. The water looks clear until I add test drops in the vial. WEIRD

I use terracotta breeding caves for many fish, I've never seen them cause a problem unless they are not true terracotta. if thats the case then there's some things in the clay process that can harm fish and other organisms. if you cant veryify its true terracotta I would take it out and and put somthing in there that is verifiable

I concur with ghost__knife and mgamer. i've used terra cotta alot in my tanks with no prob whatsoever. just scrub well as it's somewhat porous and initially can have crumbs from shipping and stacking. . .
