sea fan

You know... that specific specie you're referring to...I've never had one before. I have a red finger gorgonia.. What's most annoying about these guys is that they collect algae really easily... If I ever start collecting algae in my tank.. that would be the first place I would find it... I heard that if you don't clean them it can actually kill them. So I need to constantly wipe it with my hands...

I wonder if the one you're referring to would be the same case

Yeah i have a few sea fans and they seem to be perfectly fine and easy to keep. Im not completely sure on the names of the fans but they have absolutely no maintenance with them at all. Probably the easiest thing to keep in my opinion. I find sea fans to be a perfect buy for a beginner. something you really wont be wasting money on at all. In my opinion go for the buy Germanman.

What kind of lighting do you have that makes the sea fans so easy to keep?

it depends 110% on the species of sea fan. some are considered extremely hard to keep and most die, while others do great. some are photosynthetic with different lighting while some others are not.

so without a species name it really dosent do any good to say i they are easy to keep or not.
i have one gorgonian that was given to me by my club pres. when he took down his frag tank. only minorly photosynthetic. it needs some light but also needs feedings. i feed rotifers and cyclopse to my sps and lps occationaly so it must be doing fine with just that and other macro fauna that it is able to catch. unfortunatly, i dont know the species name of this, but was lucky enough to get it form someone who knew the history.
anyways, without knowing the species of yoru gorgonian, we cannot say if it will live or not, or what you ahve to do to make it live because different species require different requirements, even food particle size.

well i got two sea fans one was packed wrong and spent the whole trip home half out of water im gona try to nurse it back but i doubt it will make it. the other is doing great but i have yet to completely id it correctly. when i get a good pic ill post it or maybe make a link to a video of my entire tank.

I would love to see it, I hope your able to nurse the other one back to health:)

if the sea fan begins to die off just cut the dead spots off and it will be fine. I had that same thing happen with my new sea fan thats on the far right of my tank. I cut the dead spots off and the thing grew right back and is still growing. I have to cut it down about once every year now though since it grows so fast.
