I want to get a snail to keep the algae down in my 5 gallon and was just wondering if one would be ok with my dwarf gourami?

Also what should I feed the snail?

Snails are wonderful little critters and totally safe with a cory. Get a Pomacea Bridgesii (Brig).

the best algae eating snails are not the apple/mystery snails you are most likely referring to. they will eat some algae, but it is not their preferred food, and they won't make much of an impact on it. if you want algae gone, I reccomend some hitchkikers snails of some sort, or japanese trapdoor snails (if you can find them, not sure if they can really handle tropical temps, though). a pair of otocinclus catfis might also be a good option to eat algae.

Why are you saying they are safe with a cory I asked if it was ok with a dwarf gourami.

Opps sorry- saw dwarf and thought cory for some reason... Not sure how a snail would be with a dwarf gourami... As long as he's a mellow guy there would be no problem. 5 gals is a bit small to be adding a snail to though. An adult brig should have atleast 2.5 gals reserved for them to remain healthy.
