blue eyed cichlids ate their babies

I have a pair of blue eyed cichlids that have spawned. I looked into the tank and saw their babies poking around in the corner. This morning the babies were gone. Would I have done better to have isolated them in their own tank? Or did they eat their babies because it was their first spawn?

Well, I was wrong. I got a call from my wife and she said that the babies were back. Mom and Dad Spilurum must have trundled them up into the castle for their bed time. I wonder if I should set up a 10 gallon tank so that I can save a few. Any advice would be aprreciated.
