Today, I saw the most gruesome thing..I was in my basement, where I keep my fishes at, then this big looking 4 legged thing peeked in through the door..It was ugly and I was scared because I thought that thing was going to attack me..Do 30 inch rats exist? I saw one today

it may have been a muskrat.... they get that big and look a lot like normal rats. I used to keep and breed rats and my biggest male was not over 16" long including tail.

I used to see 20 inch plus levee rats in New Orleans, but nothing that big. Could it have been a nutrea or something like it?

We have a pet rat in our store.

A customer brought him in cause they couldnt take care of it anymore.

Turns out the rat is twice the size of a normal adult rat, and we found out it was fed table scraps its whole life. We weighed it and its about 2lbs. haha that has to be the biggest regular rat ive ever seen.

But the rats your talkin bout, ive seen quite a few of them swiming in the lake. Looked alot like a beaver but we have no beavers here.

Thats a Muskrat TipStylez. Honestly, depends on where you live, but I'd say you had a Muskrat in your basement too.

Before the leathermill industry here dried up and moved to Mexico, it was common to have VERY large rats in town. We once had a neighbor from across our street knock on our door to tell us we had a rat in our attic. He said he could see it in our attic window from across the street!! We knew a little about him so dismissed it as a bad trip or some drug induced halucigen. About a month later, we came home from camping and in the middle of our living room was a dead rat larger than our pekingese dog. No idea why it died or how it got in the living room but the backside of the attic door was scratched and chewed beyong belief. I now keep a baseball bat ready but we have not heard of these mill rats for several years.

Food of the Gods from the novel by H.G. Wells.

But your critter might have also been a groundhog. Those are like stout beavers without the big flat tail. Or an otter. Or a muskrat. Or it could have actually been a huge rat and you should never go outside again without a baseball bat.

A big rat can get to 2ft including tail. Especially in the city where there's loads of food.

A big rat can get to 2ft including tail. Especially in the city where there's loads of food.yeah... most pet rats get fed a primarily vegitarian diet, with has much less protein, and that equals less growth. the ones in cities probably eat alot more high fat/protein human refuse so they grow larger as a result.

LOL reminds me of an old, old joke about a kid in a classroom who never talks, is totally quiet; one day the kids were talking about something that triggered his memory, and he raises his hand, "ooh ooh ooh i got something" and he blurts out "my dad just killed a rat, a big rat, a '**' big a** ****** rat!!!" Holds up his arms wide as he can, "it was this *********** HUUUUUUUGE!!!" , then sits down as if nothing happened and didn't say another word. Guess you had to be there lol.

..... Holds up his arms wide as he can, "it was this *********** HUUUUUUUGE!!!" , then sits down as if nothing happened and didn't say another word. :Angel:I've spent some time in Korea, and I've seen rats the size of house cats. One had the most beautiful, ivory white fur...but it was a great big sewer rat.

Rosita, that was a favorite joke in Jr. High!

Teacher tells the kids she'll go through each letter of the alphabet, starting with "A", choose a pupil, who will then speak out loud a word that starts with that letter. All at once, there's Johnny, with his hand up...he knows a word that starts with the letter "A"! Problem is, every word Johnny says is a cuss word, and there are a couple choice dirty words that start with "A". The teacher chooses Suzie, who says "Apple starts with the letter A".

Now, it's the letter "B" with Johnny raising his hand. Instead, young Stephen gets the nod, and he says "Bear starts with the letter B".

The class goes through the letters C, D, E, F (!!), G, H, I, J....well, you get the picture...Johnny exuberantly raises his hand for each one, and the poor teacher has to choose somebody else to avoid a string of profanity associated with the chosen letter spewing from Johnny's mouth.

Finally, they get to the letter "R". Hmm, teacher can't think of anything foul coming out of Johnny's mouth that ever started with "R". Alright, she gives Johnny a nod.

"R is for Rats...BIG ****** RATS WITH ***** THIS ****** BIG!"

*SIGH*, I guess you had to be there, too, for this one. :)

Most rats I've seen are good with pick sets or skeleton keys.

This rat may have put on slacks and a sport coat to keep from looking too conspicuous, then let himself in through an unlocked window when the coast was clear.

Seriously, their teeth never ever stop growing. They have to gnaw constantly to keep their teeth from owergrowing their mouths. They will gnaw a hole right through a length of galvanized pipe, so gnawing through thick pieces of wood is simply no effort for them.
