I agree, 3 max... though 4 can be done, it will be a little tough maintenance wise...

yeah, I wouldn't try it. once they get about 6-7 inches each you'll se you've got enough in there with them.
Is it because there is not enough room or because of how much wast they will leave. I did get a snail..dont know if that matters.

both plus the hormones they produce during growth.
the snail is ok

Getting another goldfish is out. I have $25 of store credit that can only be used to buy fish. Any suggestions on what to get. These are going in the 55 with the 3 fancy goldfish.

you're pretty limited because of the goldfish. Look into coldwater fish, nothing tropical should be added though I have a feeling you already know this.

Yeah, a little of both as everyone put it. I've never kept goldfish so I dont know how aggressive they can be but if you overload the biological filter you will have problems with ammonia. I am experiancing that problem with Oscars right now. I have to do daily water changes because the Biological filter cant keep up with the ammonia produced by the fish. They will be moving into a 150 gallon as soon as it gets here.

realoly, you should save it until you vcan make another aquarium. don't add anything to your 55G except maybe another snail.
I could get something for the 5g.
What temp do gold fish like.

sure. you could get a betta and 2 otos.
the best golsfish temps are between 72 and 60 degrees F
How many bettas can be in a tank together. I only see them alone in jars.
Do you say betta like bet or bait?

How many bettas can be in a tank together. I only see them alone in jars.one per tank for males, they are extremely territorial. females can be kept together if there is adequte space.
What other fish could be kept in a 5g?

Looks like I will only be getting one..if I get any.

What other fish could be kept in a 5g?hmmm.... you could keep a dwarf puffer or a dwarf gourami or a trio of sparkiling gouramis or a pygmy sunfish PLUS 2 otos or some shrimp or an apple snail (don't get a snail if you get a dwarf puffer) OR instead of those options you could spring for a small group of endler's livebearers or a colony of least killifish.
Would a dwarf puffer need a heater? If they do could I take the heater from the 55 and put it in the 5?
What would I do if it puffed in the bag(when coming home) and the bag riped?

Would a dwarf puffer need a heater? If they do could I take the heater from the 55 and put it in the 5?yes and I would assume the 55Gs heater is much too powerful and take up too much space. dwarf puffers can only barely puff up , and have no spines. you are thinking of porcuepine fish, which are related to pufferfish but are not pufferfish.

im not sure if white clouds can go in with goldfish. Maybe some shrimp?(idk if these are coldwater) or a coldwater loach(back on the 55 gal topic not the 5 gal)

The most important tests (and they're all generally expensive) you should buy without hesitation are the PH, ammonia, and nitrite tests. Study the PH needs of your fish- ie. your goldfish need a PH within the 6-8 range, and the closer to nuetral the better. Ammonia and nitrite are two bio-toxins that should test at 0 at ALL times.

you need test kits for ammoina, nitrite, nitrate, and pH as bare necessities.
as for fish in a 5 gallon, a dwarf gourami and some shrimp will look pretty cool.

If you are still thinking of keeping goldfish - Jessu, keeping the fancy goldfish to 3 is a good idea. fancy's are susceptible to dropsy in a bad way, so you want to keep the water quality very good. I currently have a 55 gallon with 2 fancy goldfish, 1 shubunkin, and 1 pseudo moore (his scales turned gold in such a way that he now seems to be sporting a bikini). their tank mates are 6 small catfish (I am currently trying to ID them. they were taken in from my mom in law along with the fancies). They are all doing well in 72-74 F temp. The goldfish are getting bigger, so now I am starting to get a 90gallon put together to house everyone in a few months. All the goldfish I have kept have been social with new additions. Only the sick ones have been picked on by others, but this has not been a problem for me.
cheers,
Alex

having goldies myself, id reccomend you stick with 3 or 4. just remember-you need very high filtration. get something like 2 xp3's or a single eheim 2217.
