I have 2 HOB filters on my 37 gallon cichlid tank. I took the filter medium out of one, just the foam to start a new tank. I did this the week after I cleaned the other filter but I didn't change the medium in that filter.
I also removed the rocks 2 weeks ago to clean them. Tufa, very pourus and might have held a lot of good bacteria.
My tap water has .5 ammonia in it. I did a water change last night and I still have .5 ammonia reading in the tank. I have 0 nitrite and 10 nitrate.
I added a dose of Prime to make the ammonia safe.
Am I okay or should I fork out the $25 for bio-spira?
