I travel for a living and dosed both tanks with Bio Spira two weeks ago and have done multible heavy duty water changes. When I left this Monday my Amm was .5 and < .3 nitrides and 10 ppm nitrates.
When I tested after a 25% water change in both tanks today, I got 2.0 amm,
<.3 nitrides and 20 ppm nitrates. I am using Prime as a water conditioner.
Did I get a Bio Spira dud? What should be my next move, including water changes to bring down Amm parameters.

When you add Bio Spira and you do a water change shorty afterwords, you are taking out the Bio Spira..Most people think you can do a water change shortly afterwords from adding Bio Spira because they say water does not carry bacteria..But I think the bio spira bacteria has not established itself in the aquarium if you do water changes..Some people like myself add Bio Spira and dont change the water for a week and a half so that the bacteria can establish themselves in an aquarium..And yes, Bio Spira in the past did help in cycling my tank in 5 days..I had to go through large ammonia spikes and nitrite spikes until everything settled in in 5 days..

Bio Spira

Should I buy another 3 oz. package of Bio Spira after getting my amm down .25 and add it and leave it alone. One good thing is my nitrates went from 10 to 20 ppm.
Thanks for the reply.

Prime

Can I dose my 2 tanks for volume and add untreated tap water.

Thanks for your reply, I really respect your help you have given.

Your Bio-Spira is working fine. You do not need to add anymore. You are almost at the end of the cycle. I would do another 50% water change today. Keep us posted on how it is going.

Bio Spira is suppose to completly cycle a tank in 5 to 10 days at the most..After 10 days, he is in a normal cycle without any bio spira help..If he keeps on doing water changes, this is a normal cycle..You are now talking about a normal cycle with frequent water changes to bring the levels down..There are two ways to cycle a tank:

Bio Spira cycling
Regular cycling

The OP is now in the regular cycling process mode!

Watermelon

Can you break that down to newbie terms.
Thanks,

Thanks,

Your Bio Spira is not working...It has been too long 14 days..By 14 days, Bio Spira is suppose to cycle your tank..Now, you are in the regular mode of cycling..You are doing a regular fish cycle now..

As I said before, you did a lot of water changes and a lot of people say you can do this but from my experience, I dont do any water changes after I add the Bio Spira in..It is not like after you put Bio Spira in and the next day you do a massive water change to bring down levels..That is not right..
