I'm in in the process of moving my 29g to a 55g. I know people like to have 2 heaters in a 55 for a backup, but I'm considering adding 1 Visi-therm Stealth with the knowledge that I have an old heater in case it putts out.

What do you guys think?
A) 2 100 watt stealths?
B) 1 200 watt stealth?
c) 1 250 watt stealth?

I say two, because it's not all about one heater that stops working. If the heater malfuctions and raises the water temp as much as it can less damage will be done with a lower wattage heater. Did that make sense?

I agree, if one fail the other one can heat part of your tank anyways.

I use 1 but I think two is smarter , And my fish will not belly up at
first sign of 75 deg water . I always look at my temp "ONCE" A day .
If thermo is not working , I go bye another .
One time I did have a Thermo go wackey and cooked my fish
A very nice affracan setup .

a great reason why not to buy cheap heaters. i think heaters are over looked all the time. they are just as important as the filter. i get Visi-Therm Stealth Heater for my tanks.

I voted for two heaters.. Put one on each end so the tank distributes the heat more evenly and it cuts out cold and hot spots for the most part..

I run 2 heaters. One at each end of my tank. Both are thermostatically controlled. One is digital, one is not. I also have a separate thermometer attached to the inside of the tank at the end where I have the non-digital thermometer. I check both morning and night. They stay within a thenth of a degree of each other.

I figure, I have a long tank....the temp at each end cannot be the same without 2 thermometers. Each end has its own metering device. NTM if one goes out, at least my fishies can go to the "warm" side!
