I was told by my friend who has a few cichlids that they all eat plants. Is that true?

Some do, both tanks are stocked w/ cichlids and never had a problem. Just look at Avatar. That is a jewel, turqouise jewel, and blue flash in planted tank.

eh, I don't really wanna be limited to what plants I can and can't use, other than those 3, are there other cichlids that'll leave plants alone?

angels leave plants alone and acctually prefer to have a planted tank.

hmm... how many do you think could inhabit a 29G?

or what would make for good tank mates?

I was told by my friend who has a few cichlids that they all eat plants. Is that true? absolutely NOT true. there are 'some' cichlids that eat plants but in actuality, there are far more than don't. your friend doesn't sound like a very reliable source of information.

haha, I don't doubt it. He prolly get his info from some *explicit* at a pet store. You know how that goes. Does anyone know the ones that for sure will shred my plants? Or even better one's that won't?

more common is the problem where the cichlid uproots the plant. as they redecorate.

2 angels max.

agreed..

however, I would like to point out that angels will occasionally munch on plants...typically they are carnivores but they have been known to tug on a plant or two. especially moss.
