Admittedly, I love the look of real plants... but the hassle and the added cost (however 'slight') is more than I've ever wanted to deal with. That is why I generally choose plastic plants.

Obviously, not all plastics are crated equal, though, and some have a more realistic quality than others. So I decided to set up this thread for my fellow 'fake-lovers' to add in their two-cents' worth on which fakes are most realistic for the plant they are deemed to immitate.

In general, I'll start with making a link to one of my absolute favorite places to shop plastics. That would be:

www.thatpetplace.com OR www.thatfishplace.com

Their selection of artificals has a beautiful variety of silks and plastics, some of which mimic some real species so well, it'd be hard to tell some of them apart. Some of these even come with 'roots' at their bases for added effect!!

Simply superb.

But one brand often cannot mimic everything with utmost perfection... or they just have one 'fake' that looks more realistic than the others. If you notice an artificial that makes you do a double-take, add it on here so others can have the aesthetics of 'real' without the hassle of real!!

(Example template)
Brand: (brand of aquarium product)
Name: (name of artificial plant)
Resembles: (name of live plant it looks most like)
Material: (usually plastic or silk)
Rate: (1-10 with 10 being so close to real, it practically needs fertilizer!)
And then add any personal comments on the plant, like size and personal opinion of it's quality and versatility, strong and weak points, type of gravel base, ect.

i also use certain 'silk' plants from That Fish Place and i'd defy anyone to tell the difference between them and the 'real thing'.

I know. Aren't they superb?? But surprisingly enough, I prefer Wal-Mart's plastic sword plant they offer in their fish aisle over most silks I come across. They are just so bright and they actually look more realistic than the silk ones do. It's one of my favorites in my 10-gallon setup right now!

Whoda thunk it, right? :dance2:

I'll post the specs on it later. I've had it for years and have forgotten the name brand, so I'll have to look it up when I next hit up Wally-World for groceries... :P

so lets see some pictures!!!

I'ma worrkin' on it!! Unfortunately, my digital camera doesn't have a USB port that matches up with anything either myself or my friend have for our computers. I should just borrow her camera sometime and take pics of my humble little tank... ^__^
