I moving shortly and when I re-set up my (50g) tank Im going for a planted tank (with fish)

This is my plan - 3" of substrate, not sure which is best, laced with lacerite and root tabs. Below this I intend having a heating wire.

2 x 40wt sunglos and 1 x 40wt grolux(warm) - 11hrs daily

4 x ottos, for algae maintanece. Various other charcins.

The plants I intend putting in are a mail order mix for a 50g tank.

Does anyone have any suggestions or tips for successfull planted aquaria? Cheers.

With your lighting you will need to think about co2.

ok, a few things, id go with a 100% fluorite base, definately some sort of co2, whter its diy, or pressurised, because without it thats algae teritory. um, youll have to think bout fetiliser, whether ur gonna use pmdd or purchased already made fertiliser. also, i think its good to have good mechanical filtration in a planted tank, this u get good circulation and you can clear all the excess plant parts after pruning.
dont buy all your plants straight away.
make sure you plan out the tank with plants you are gonna have.
let the plants establish before allding all your fish (ottos are ok, the will help to control algae)
hope this helps

p.s. choose fish carfully, a few fish can ruin a lot of work and a lot of cash:P
