I have a 37g cube sitting empty that I plan to put fw angelfish in someday...that is after I get my other aquariums in line. But I was curious to know how many you all think could go in there?
I was thinking the same thing. I have a pair alone in a 30 and they are happy as can be. In the absence of a true pair, two like-size Angelfish should be fine.
The dimensions of the tank are 20"x12"x24". So basically two would be the max? And...how would I go about getting them? I've read you can get 5-6 juveniles and let them pair off and keep the pair in the 37g, moving the rest out. I doubt I have any other suitable quarters (check out my sig) to house the rest of them?
you can't prevent a pair from forming..keep in mind that the more angels you start out with the greater the chance of pairing off.
you can try just placing two angels in the tank. watch them..sometimes with males you may find a dominant male..sometimes they are fine with others..sometimes they aren't.generally when you place two angels in a tank you will be fine.
Be sure to watch if you get more than one. I had four, hoping to get a pair, which all ended up being males. That being said, I am now left with one black veil.
So...seems the best course of action is to get two and hope I don't get an aggressive one that kills the other, or be lucky (or unlucky?) enough to get a pair and all is well? What else could I put in with the pair if anything? I appreciate all the help, I haven't kept angels before and it'll be a bit of time before I do but I'd like to know what I can and can't do as far as stocking so I can plan it all out.
I have seen cardinals added with them and other tetras that are med-large(2"+)
also hatchets as well as rams, keyholes(3"+), festivums(6-8") and other 'peaceful' cichlids.(caution the festivums would be too large)
if you add structure and plants for the fish to hide in(fake works good) you should be fine.
my tanks have driftwood, a good tangle if you can find it, and lots of plants.
I have bolivian rams with angels ..I don't add many target fish..tho I have been curious to try black neon(I have some with some discus in a growout tank)
be wary of some tetras as they can get nippy.
also I have BN's in my tanks..in the small tanks I have albino bn's which don't seem to get as large as the brown.
