I can get both combos for the same price. Which would you prefer for a 65G tank with normal to high bioload. Will eventually go with live plants but have plastic for the time being. Thanks all.

go for the 2 Rena filters.

Much easier as the media can be swapped between them. Same with spare parts.

Thanks all. The XP2's it is.

Also how often do I need to change the media in these things? Spefically the the 20 and 30 micron pads, the white fiber pads and stars or ceramic noodles? Thanks.

You shouldn't ever change the ceramics, that's what your biological bacteria are going to grow on. If you change those out you'll have an ammonia spike.

thank you. What about the filter pads. How often for them to be changed?

i give my sponges a quick rinse in a bucket of tank water when i do my PWC's.
since they too hold BB, you dont really want to wash that off.
and ive heard you never need to replace them until they are physically unusable (shredding, disintigrating etc).

great. so these can be used for quite awhile. Excellent.

Lastly - what about the white micro filters that sit on the top of the media. How often to change them? Thank you all.
