I have a breeding pair of kribensis. I saved 4 females from their first spawn and they are all about 2cm in length now.

My question is: If I put them back in the tank with their parents, are they going to get killed once the parents breed again or not?

Also, has anyone heard of krib males breeding simultaneously with multiple females? If so I might grow the four females on a bit and then reintroduce them to their dad - they're already looking pretty stunning!

Any future offspring resulting from the father-daughter crosses would be taken to my LFS, I'm not into excessive inbreeding of cichlids.

Hi there,

I'm don't think the krib parents will treat the baby kribs any better/worse than any of the other tankmates! As you know they are pretty aggressive while breading/rearing babies. I don't think the male will be able to mate with more than one (jealous) female. Further, I think it may be best to avoid father/daughter mating, from what I've heard from LFS that is one of the worst genetic pairings for producing mutations in baby fish...

Bumpety bump

Anyone else got anything to say about this? My kribs are currently swimming round the tank with their third batch of around 40 fry.

My zebra danios are having no trouble getting out of the way so far!

Kribs are pair breeders, as opposed to the cichlids of lake malawi, which are harem spawners.

They would treat the offsprings as any other fishes that are already in the tank. If they think of their children as another fish, then they will kill them in order to save the next batch of frys.

I wouldn't go with breeding parents with their offsprings.

Congratulations on the frys. Hope you have as much fun raising them, as I have (Also on the 3rd spawn).
