Posted this a few days ago without photo. No help at that time.

One of my Neon Rainbows has a blackish spot on her side. No apparent distension of scales. Eating and swimming well.

Water params: A=0, nI=0, nA=10, chlorine and chloramines=0, pH=7.2.

Live and plastic plants. Fluval 304. 2 twelve inch bubble wands. 2 medium sized drift wood (hidey holes for Howard the clown pleco). Fish friends are feed 2x daily as much as can be eaten <3 minutes. Flakes, frozen and freeze dried, alternating. Flakes are new. I buy VERY small containers so it won't get old!

40-50% water changes weekly with Python. Includes gravel vac. New water is introduced with Prime for full tank volume. Temp is tested at tap to match tap temp before introduction.

if it get bigger I would worry, It dosnt look like too much to me... but someone may have differing opinion, best thing is to keep up like you are on the water change, keep the water healthy

Yeah, if it increased in size or became an open sore I'd worry about it, but for now I'd say watch and wait as well.

I just had one3 weeks ago start with that and it turned into a huge open sore. I fear it was shhhh... TB but I have my fingers crossed that it wasn't, however I have read a few different places that say dwarf neon rainbows are more susceptable to it. Perhaps because they were cut off from the rest of the world??? I dunno. But keep an eye on it, I added salt as soon as I saw it and it just got worse until he passed. Good luck, sorry if I spooked you just sharing my experience, I would quarantine him anyway.

I agree with the above posts, it doesn't look like much (maybe a missing scale) at the moment, with good water conditions it should heal. Also the fish looks healthy in all other respects which is why I suspect a simple wound of some sort. If it gets any bigger I would definately treat it.

I've kept rainbows for a long time and only ever used Malachite Green based products to treat them. I'm not sure whether others will agree with this technique but it has always worked great for me. If I see a sore on a fish and it isn't healing; I net the injured fish, bring the net out of the water, dab some medication (malachite green based) directly onto the would and then release the fish back into the tank. If it is something that I suspect may spread (or has spread) I treat the whole tank.

Well, tonite the spot on the scale has changed. The scale seems distended a little bit and there is a white spot on it. Fish also seems to be "gulping" Her mouth never stops moving. Her gills aren't inflamed. Water params are the same as in the original post.

I have Melafix, Pimafix and QuickCure on hand. Should I do my water change then add meds (if I use Melafix, I use in conjunction with Pimafix. QuickCure I use solo)?

Mela and Pima are anti bacterial meds, QC is an anti-parasite. You would be correct in your current setup. It sounds like some sort of bacterial to me, I would treat with mela and pima and see where it goes.
