I have had my 55 gallon tank for about 2 years now. The inhabitants currently are 2 Tiger Oscars, 2 Parrots and a Pleco. I am new at caring for live plants. I am looking to start, but I am unsure of what type of plants I should begin with. Also, what plants would be best for the fish that I have? Any suggestions?

Oscars are notorious plant destroyers. Perhaps you could try java moss (low growing) and/or java fern (very tough). Both are conveniently very easy-care plants often recommended for beginners.

i would start with java moss and java fern but i think oscars love to mess around with them.

i would also look at your stocking level. a oscar needs 75 gal min.

right now you are quite overstocked and I would get rid of the oscars and the pleco before you do anything else. after that you cann try anubias, java moss and fern, and anacharis.
