hi, i was just wondering about the proper way to apply a backround to a tank, i have tried it before with tape but eh, its not that great of an idea. i was wondering if there were any tricks in applying it . any help is greatly appreciated.
OK how I do it:
Rinse the background first
Then dip it in the tank water to get it really wet
Decide the side you want it on (if it is reversable)
Stick it on the back of the tank
Take a clean rag and wipe down the back and to get any air bubbles out
I just tape it to the top and bottom of the tank. gives it shadow and depth. I do not tape it to the glass. Works real good with blue because it puts a "gradient" type look on it.

I have taped a few and didnt care for the look myself. On the last tank I setup I wanted the back to be a nice even gloss black. I read some where to either use vasaline or mineral oil, I opted for the oil, spreading it well over the backgorund and placng it up against the back. Then I used a credit card like a squeegie to get the air bubles out. Looks nice. But on my next tank I'll try just painting the back.
