Hi!

I just got a 40 gallon tank (48 inch. long), and I am currently looking for a stand to hold it. I am transfering my German Blue Ram pair into the 40 (currently in a 20 gallon), and I want to add a pair of Kribs.

I know the tank is long, and the fish small, but since both fish are bottom dwellers, and during spawning my rams become aggresive, will these two fish constantly fight?

Any personal experience out there about housing kribs with rams? Also, I want to watch these fish spawn, so will the krib fry live in moderately hard water?

I just wanted to see hear some opinions before I decide on getting Kribs. :read:

Thanks,

I would say that breeding pair of rams would be bullied by a breeding pair of kribs. I would assume that the kribs are more aggressive than the rams during the protection of spawns. I'm not sure though. When the kribs are not spawning and alone, it seems like they aren't aggressive towards the other tank mates (cories also, not sure about rams).

I currently have a batch of frys in a GH of 160 ppm (I'm not sure whether that's hard or not).

i would discourage pairing Blue Rams and Kribs - Kribs are pretty sedate for the most part, but are too tough for Blue's. Also, I don't think they have quite the same water parameters - kribs like neutral to slightly acidic/alkaline water, and Rams like very acidic water - 5.5-6 ph roughly. I would have to recommend against mixing them - I have tried this in the past, and the Kribs survived, the Rams did not...

Thanks for the replies, I will knock the kribs off my list.

Any comments about adding a bolivian ram pair, a keyhole pair or dwarf flagfish pair? I am also open to suggestions on other compatible dwarf cichlids.

The 55 gallon will be heavily planted with a few large peices of driftwood, and various rocks meant for spawning.
