I keep testing my tank every day and i get the same readings for ammonia, so i tested my tap water and it shows my ammonia 1 can this be? basicly my tap water is the same as my tank water ph7.6 nitrite0 nitrate0 ammonia 1 it has been i week since my start up and i have 6 danios in there and bio spira. does this sound rite

No. It means your tanks bacteria have not developed enough to eliminate the ammonia coming from the tap.

Water suppliers use chloramine, which is a combination of chlorine and ammonia to keep water free of contaminants. This is the reason why a water treatment should be used to remove these chemicals from the water before using at water change time.

The conditioner will not remove the ammonia. It will bind it to a non toxic form, but your bacteria will do the conversion on it.

My water company switched to chloramines this past fall and now I have 1ppm ammonia in mine as well. Eventually your Nitrates will take care of it. Just do water changes until you get no more ammonia readings.
