:help: I am at my wits end. Sorry longish post. I just don't know what else to do. I don't want to lose this fish. Tank is about 5 months old. Fishless cycled for 1 month with filter media from an old, established tank. All fish have been in the tank for about 3.5 months. :huh:

Poor Neon Rainbow isn’t getting any better. In fact, she now has subcutaneous dark spots on her body, the same side as the previously noted blackish spot. She is constantly gulping. Her mouth opens fully and closes fully constantly. The gill on the affected side appears slightly red. She is swimming and eating normally.

I have treated with QuickCure, believing this to be parasitic. 3 days now. No improvement. Treatment was started after a 50% water change on Friday.

Earlier today I tested my water params and had some unusual (for my tank) readings. Water readings:

Today
A=0
nI=0
nA=5
pH=6.8
KH=53.7ppm
GH=107.4ppm
Chlorine & Chloramine=0

Previous – 1 week ago
A=0
nI=0
nA=10 (5-10 usually)
pH=7.2 (7.2-7.4 usually)
KH=107.4ppm
GH=161.1ppm
Chlorine & Chloramine=0

From my Tap
A=0
nI=0
nA=80
pH=6.2
KH=53.7ppm (107.4ppm prior to today's reading)
GH=107.4ppm (161.1ppm prior to today's reading)
Chlorine & Chloramines are treated prior to new water being added

I always make sure the new water is introduced slowly into a cup with Prime. Water is at tank temp before being added (I use a thermometer to adjust accordingly).

No other fish appear to experiencing any symptoms.

Should I do another water change tomorrow and start a treatment of Melafix and Pimafix?

Take it easy. You can try further treatment with other meds after a water change but for the most part it sounds like you've done all you can do short of play God. Sometimes, fish will get sick. And sometimes, although rarely, we can't do a **** thing about it as whatever the ailment is falls out of our control.
I know you care about his well being, just as I do about all my fish. But if I've taken every recourse possible then I let it go and hope for the best. If I've done all I can to doctor the situation then I let it go. Most of the time things improve, but there are times they will not. Understanding that allows you to focus without panic.
You're doing more than most people would do. Go ahead with a water change and try different meds. Thay may work after all. Good luck.

Question....if nothing new has been introduced since all of the fish were put in the tank, could this just be an aging process. I don't know the age of the fish...got 5 of these at the same time from a VERY reputable LFS about 3 1/2 months ago. Freaky changes on my tap water too! I honestly thought the daily testing of my water was done....sigh!

I'm not OCD, yes I am, no I'm not. Stop talking....who are you talking to?

I will try to relax and enjoy my healthy fish and let nature (with a LITTLE help) take it's course.

Thanks!
