I saw thread kind of like this and I need (almost) the same help. I am looking for suggestions. I have a 10 gallon and am looking for a few freshwater small/medium active fish for my 10 gallon. Any suggestions?
EDIT: They cannot be fin nippers. I have 1 betta in there and do not want his fins torn off.
A few of my top choices are Gournamis, Platys & Angelfish.

My Dwarf Gourami was pretty active, while I had him anyway. All day long, and sometimes at night too, he'd race up and down and up and down, chase off his reflection, explore the tank, etc.

I would say maybe some type of danio or minnow like Whiteclouds... but I think really 10g is kind of small for a tank of fish that really like to zoom. My neons, when they weren't fighting a bug of some type or another, spend most of their time exploring the gravel and plants for food, and sort of following eachother around. Lately they've grown a little bigger and have started to feud a bit. They are much more active then they looked in the fish store. Just right for me. I like to be relaxed, not exhuasted watching my tank. ;)

What else is in the tank? Is there anything you are thinking of you are not sire if it will work or not? Is the tank planted? I have a couple Golden killifish in my 10 gallon and I love them. They are a little big for that sized tank, but with good maintenance and lots of plants I feel it is working out well.

Yes I have one betta in it currently. No plants. I am thinking about platys, gournamis, and maybe angelfish if they would work out. I will definetly be looking for killifish. They have always interested me

I don't think the dwarf gourami and betta would enjoy close proximity. Some people have no problems (we had 3 gouramis and a betta who couldn't have been more peaceful in 29g), but in that small amount of space I think it would probably be trouble. Unless you moved out the betta to another place.

Angelfish get way too big so you can forget about that. Gouramis are kind of risky to keep with bettas. There is a pretty good chance that they might fight. It can be done though, just be ready to take one back. In a 10 gallon tank with a betta you are pretty much limited to adding a small school of something and that's it. Cherry barbs are an attractive fish IMO. They don't nip either. You could do 6 with the betta probably.
