Hello all!
My 10g tank has ich. I read this article http://www.aquariacentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88601&highlight=ich+salt+treatment and began treatment with heat and salt two days ago. When doing further research I noticed that there is conflicting advise about the amount of salt per gallon. The article above says 2 teaspoons (tsp) per gallon, while a current thread has 2 tablespoons per gallon as recommended treatment. Can someone pipe in with an answer? I don't want to risk my fishies health with too low a dose, I have already lost two cories :( .... please help!
~Thanks!!!

My personal recommendation is two teaspoons per gallon as a target.

i think someone got teaspoons and tablespoons mixed up.

Thanks Mgamer!
I will continue with two teaspoons/gal.
Here's another question: does the salt treatment interfere with water testing? I use the Freshwater Master kit.
~Muchas gracias!

Mgamer, I read the whole article as soon as you posted it. I have read many posts by him, and always appreciate his advice. Anyway, I appreciate all the help!

2 tablespoons per gallon would give you marine water. I don't know who is recommending that but you would kill your fish if you did it. The only way I could see it being feasible is if it where used as a salt dip for removing external parasites when you purchase a new fish but this will not be effective against ich. It may remove them off of the fish but it will just come back with a salt dip.
Do you have links to the thread recommending 2 Tbsp per gallon? I may want to post there to advise against using that concentration of salt.

The article on salt treatment is great, I'm just about done with the two week cycle and haven't seen any signs of ick for at least a week. However-do be sure you have enough oxygen. Add another filter or airstone when you raise the temperature.
I added a canister filter two days after I raised the temperature, but I lost a couple fish before I did that-I'm pretty sure due to not enough oxygen. Once the canister added to the water flow my fish looked and acted a lot happier.
I'll start lowering the temperature later this week and not add salt with the next few water changes.

I've seen the recommendation of 1 to 2 TBSP per FIVE gallons. I think that's where people get confused.
I think the 2 TSP/Gallon is an easier gauge... heaven knows I had enough issues with measuring my salt with that simpler equation. :/
