Finally installed my new Metal halides. I went with the Sunpods. However decided to use (2) units one at 150w and one at 250w. I placed lower light, like mushrooms, one of my favorites a red donut coral, and leathers on the 150 side. On the 250 side Maxima clam, and more light demanding ones. I also kept (2) t5's. Both MH are 14k and the t5's are 1-11k 60/40 and 1-blue. To me the MH do not seem to be as bright, I removed 192w of PC both 50/50. I am hoping the reason is purely visual and the light may not be as bright but a better light?

I placed the gold maxima on the ground which is about 18" tank depth and 8" to MH under 250w. Is this o.k. for the clam or should it be higher in the tank? Also for future reference should I up to 20k, 10k or stay at 14k.

the MH are absolutly better than 2 t5s. t5s have more lumens, but Mh have a lot more PAR.
the maxima should be okay there, but prefers to be on the rocks and may even do better higher up. jsut move it up slowly.

clams dont really ahve too many predetors. probably the main one are pyramid snails, but those dont enter through the bysal openings. some people claim that bristle worms do, but this is actualy a complete myth, as they simply eat the clam once it is already dead, or at least very close to it.

actually any carrion eater will attack a sick animal and most of those will live in the sand bed. if something is just a bit sick some will attack like nassa snails but like u said the bristle worms only really go in when its already over with. plus its more natural anyway. u dont need to i was recommending what the clams get in nature.
