I am pretty sure my tank just completed cycling, I saw everything spike and come back down to zero.

My water is now pretty cloudy, not green, more of a white cloudy.

Should I be cleaning (rinsing) my filter out, would this help with the cloudy water?

dont rinse your filter! it's just now getting the beneficial bacteria it needs to keep your tank cycled.. if there are fish in your tank, DONT overfeed them, and if there arent, just wait it out.. the cloudiness will soon subside. it takes usually 2-4 days before the bacterial bloom dies down from the addition of fish or plants.

There is fish in there. Have been from the start. The cloudy water has been like this for about a week and a half, from about the time the NitrITE spiked, finally tested last night and it was at 0.

I agree with the above poster. What you are experiencing is a bacterial bloom, which is comon with newly cycled tanks. The bacteria is trying to establish itself and figure out where it is going to be most productive in your tank. Bacterial blooms can last anywhere from a day to a month, you cannot predict the actual length. Changing your filter or fussing around trying to cure this will only prolong this process. Keeping up with the water changes will be all you will need. It may not look aesthetically pleasing but given time, you will have a mature tank.

Thanks DD. I will continue with the water changes.
From reading articles on the net, that seemed to be the most consistant reason for the cloudy water, however, the solution varied quiet a bit from each article. I didn't think cleaning the filter would be beneficial, but I thought I would double check with you guys.

Thanks,

never heard of it. i wouldnt use an additive to get rid of it.. you'll have better results just waiting out the bloom.

Please do not use a product to help clear the cloudy water. It is just a bacterial bloom and the best thing to do for this is to wait it out and keep up on water changes as previously mentioned. Using a product for this is IMO pretty wothless. I am not a big believer in using chemicals and additives in the aquarium setting. I think using more natural means is always more beneficial.

people who ask you what happened to your tank do not need to comment on something they know nothing about. those are the same people that put goldfish in bowls, and toss 6 oscars in a 29 gallon tank..

sorry. just my $.02
