Just thought I'd share a pic of my new(ish) critter. I've had her for a few months now.

They do not sting unless extremely irritated, and even then they will more likely pinch you. Venom is precious.
And as far as male/female. Females are larger bodied, and there is a diffence in the sensory fins underneath them.

cool!
id rather be pinched than stung... it cant be much worse than a bite from my cockatiel when she gets mad or scared.

Very interesting! I had no idea... TRUST me Pinching really sucks... I have large herimies and they can easily break the skin...Not fun. This is a pic of "Lance"...Not my biggest crab, but definitely the most social

Lance "got me"one day and I had a nasty blood blister for 2 weeks on the palm of my hand. Their strengh will blow your mind.
Sorry Kitty, didnt mean to jack your thread!

I got her in trade for doing some computer work for a friend (who works at a pet store). I got the whole setup and everything else with her. I even put up a black light over her tank. oooh, you should see it at night. Unfortunately my camera doesn't like black lights and the colors don't show up right.
Why'd I pick her? I don't know, I just like them. Besides, I have to have at least ONE pet that my BF won't touch. He is a slight arachnophobe.

Dunno....I cannot imagine having a parent that is against them....my parents got me a tarantula for my 10th birthday. What is your dad's main argument against one?

my only advice would be to prove to them you are responsible..i wouldn't want a loose scorpion in my house
