Is the sea salt u get at the grocery store the same as aquarium salt. And would it be safe to put in a 10 gal with guppies and platies?

not sure about the sea salt question. I don't see why you could not put guppies with platies in your 10g. Prepare for a lot of fry. A LOT.

I heard from some guy that adding a lttle salt is suppossed to be good for them and help keep disease away. I dunno thats just what i heard.

Don't worry about the salt, it's not necessary. The only time I think salt is needed in a freshwater aquarium is while treating for ich or similar problems. So that's one less thing you need to buy :)

The mineral content of salt mix is different from the salt used for human consumption.

Constant presence of salt in FW doesn't help in preventing diseases such as ich but salt does help cure ich. This is due to change is osmotic pressure when salt is added to FW tank.

Sea salt at the grocery store is probably the same or similar to Freshwater Aquarium salt (like Doc Wellfish etc...) but is very different than Marine Mix salt which is used in Saltwater tanks and brackish water tanks.

Agreed on not needing to keep any in the tank. Just use it when treating specific diseases like ich. And at that point grocery store salt is just fine (and probably cheaper).
