Filter Hoses

I think I've seen this post on here before. However...

My filter hoses on my Rena Xp3 have little spots of what I can only assume is either algae or a diatom.

Does anyone clean their hoses periodically? Is it more for cosmetic purposes rather then actually benefitting water conditions?

All my filter hoses have surface algae on the insides. I've never bothered to clean it. They are all hidden under the tanks anyway, so I rarely see them anyway, so cosmetics isn't really an issue.

i use a hose on them every now and then. i really dont worry about them and cover them up so i cant see them anyways.

If cosmetics is an issue, you can always take a pipe cleaner and run it in and out of the tube a couple of times.....
