Does anyone know how much an 18-20" mbu sell for?

I've never seen one that big for sale, but I think that you should post that in General FW as Mbus are FW, not BW.

Actually, though, the puffer people usually hang out here. Ignore my first post.

Have you seen one and want to judge if the price is right, or are you just getting a feel for prices right now?

Someone was asking on another site. There'd be no way I could house a fish like that! I don't think they should even be available for sale to the common folk, just to large aquariums.

Yeah, any fish that weighs more than a bowling ball and thinks that the world is its set of tenpins probably isn't an attractive aquarium occupant. I don't think that I've seen a Mbu for sale, though, because there are other, more affordable and feasible puffers out there. Besides, if you want mean, don't people just buy small fahakas and raise them to maturity?

This person has the fish & is thinking of selling it.

Wow, wish them luck. I just saw Tigerfish juvies for sale at $300 each, so I would think that an asking price on a mature Mbu would be more than that, but I don't see how many buyers they could possibly get at a price like that...I don't know, though, b/c I'm just a lowly college student!

I'll take that back...***************** occasionally has them in their hatchery, so I don't know for sure how rare they are.

Confused, muddling through, and hoping that somehow these ramblings might help.

I did not respond elsewhere, but as with anything in the world, a valid price is what someone is willing to pay for it. You are asking someone to spend a lot on support equipment.

amazonia in austin texas has a mbu thats probably 20" [one foot fish, 8" of tail] they sold him once when he was smaller, and the customer brought him back when they couldnt take care of it any longer.

they set up a recliner in front of the tank so it looks sorta like a big screen tv thats always on the mbu channel. he seems to generate a lot of business that way as once people see him, they sometimes end up signing their name on a waiting list for one.

selling a big puffer would be like selling your dog, the price may not be as important as finding a good home for it.

I was thinking the more she charged, the more likely it would be someone would take good care of it. She said she is going to go through a stringent screening/adoption process if she does decide to sell it.

*Pulls up a chair, sees test pattern, realizes that he needs a Mbu first.*

I remember someone named ted selling a 20 inch+ mbu puffer for like nearly 1k... the fish was measured out with a metrestick (he had pics) and it was MONSTROUS...
