Well, it looks like my Neon Rainbow may not make it. She still swims, sort of. Mostly just hangs out at the center, top of the tank. She doesn't eat.
She will go to the food, but not eat. She now has 3 blackish spots and her tail fin is bright red at the body end of her fin (males are bright red, she is supposed to be more orangey than red). She NEVER stops gulping/gasping. Her gills are constantly flaring.

I treated for 3 days with QuickCure. No improvement. I hesitate to treat the tank with any other meds since no other fish seem affected.

This is a fully cycled, 5 month old tank. Used fishless with "borrowed" filter media and gravel. All fish have been in the tank for about 3 1/2 months. Nothing new has been added since before the problem. In fact, nothing new since the tank was fully stocked as it is now.

A & nI = 0, nA=10, ph=6.8 (down some from 7.2 a week ago, think a change in my tap water), chlorine & chloramines=0. I do 40-50% water changes weekly. I add Prime for full tank volume, introducing new water into a cup with Prime. New water is added at tank temp (I use a thermometer to get water to right temp before adding). I use a Python.

:hang:I guess I just have to accept the fact that she may die. How do I decide when she may have to be euthanized for her sake?

If other fish don't start trying to eat her eyes or something , and the disease is not contagious, I would just let her die, it won't take much longer.

If you do decide you want to euthanize, then when is up to your judgement call.

I am sorry to hear about your neon rainbow. I have never had much luck with them either and they do not seem to survive well in the shops tanks either. Maybe they are just more fragile then the other rainbows.
