The only LFS within nearly 100 miles of me is pretty terrible. When I originally setup my 55gal last summer, I wasn't aware of fishless cycling and just added my fish slowly one at a time over a couple months. I had to treat the tank more than once for Ich during that time and lost a few fish that died a week or two after I got them for no apparent reason. I finally had things stabalized, but I just had to have *one last fish* to complete the tank and ended up with a really bad case of Ich that killed every single fish in there except my pleco. YES, I do now have a 10gal quarantine tank, lesson learned :)

After a few months of having only a 4" pleco living in the 55gal in my living room, I decided to do a fishless cycle and restock it all at once and hope I could make it through the inevitable Ich outbreak. I put the following fish in there:

16 neon tetras
16 glowlight tetras
8 panda cories
6 glass fish
my 4" pleco

The 6 glass fish are going to a tank for my mom as soon as I know they are ok and the pleco will be moving to the 150gal I'm setting up in the next few months, the rest will be staying permanently in the 55gal.

Ich medication in hand I watched the fish closely each day checking for any spots or flashing. I thought about just starting treatment immediately since I was nearly positive I'd end up with Ich, but I didn't want to unnecessarily stress the tetras. In the first few days I lost one glowlight tetra and one cory, but I think this was just due to stress. On about day 6 I noticed one of the glass fish had 5 spots on him, so I started treatment and raised the temp to 82. The next day I noticed one of the other glass fish had 2 spots on him. Each day I've been doing a 20% water change then remedicating the tank afterwards. I've been medicating for 9 days now and have noticed zero change. The same two glass fish have the same amount of spots on them and no other fish have shown any signs of problems and all seem healthy and are eating well.

Until tonite, one of the panda cories appears to have pop-eye (or something causing one of her eyes to bulge out). I checked my water parameters and everything is fine there, I'm figuring she's stressed from all the medication over so many days maybe?

Sooo, this is what I've done so far and I'm open for any advice here please! Tonite I moved all the glassfish to the 10gal quarantine tank since they are the only ones with visible Ich at this point and this way I can medicate them at full strength without harming the tetras. I've left the cory in the main tank for now and I don't have anywhere else to move her to isolate her.

I haven't done any medicating tonite since I wasn't sure what effect this may have on the sick cory, but I did a 50% water change on the 55gal to hopefully help her out some. Should I continue to medicate the 55gal at half dosage with the Quick Cure even though no fish currently in that tank show any signs of Ich at this point? Or just keep a close eye on them and wait until I see something happening to start medicating again? Or should I try something else altogether to cure the Ich? And what, if anything, can I do for the cory and her bulging eye?

I read up on pop-eye and seems there are lots of different possible causes and cures. Some say to treat with antibiotics, but I'm afraid to add more medications to this tank right now.

Thank you for reading this far, I know it was long, but wanted to give as much detail as possible. I'm starting to think I'd be better off driving the 3 hours to buy my fish at a better LFS or purchasing them online instead of going through this mess!

A good ick cure is salt combined with raising the temp to 82F, try that on your glass fish instead of the ick medicine. Raising the temp even higher (85 max, imo) will shorten the life cycle of the ick parasite to just a few days. You might be able to combine this with the ick medicine you have, but I wouldn't.

You might consider putting the cory in quarantine after the salt treatment is done,

or

put all the corydoras in quarantine instead of the glass fish and treat the 55 gallon with salt and the q-tank with the the ick medicine and maybe anti-biotic if you think it's warranted.

Some people have mentioned a high salt dip (not for the corys please) to kill ick.

good luck
:)

After reading up some more about the bacterias that can cause the pop-eye condition, I opted to move the sick cory to the quarantine tank with the glass fish to hopefully prevent any of the others from getting infected as well.
