I recently contacted someone who is selling Jungle Val. He lives in Florida and dosen't have heat packs. I live in Wisconsin. Should I risk it? This is a really good deal.

Eh, it's risky without the heat pack and freezing temperatures. Mail trucks aren't insulated and the plant could easily freeze.

Hey! UYou didn't say what kind of Val. Would you be willing to share the persons contact info? I'm interested in getting some Vals. I live in Cali and its warm enough out here to lessen the risk.

In general, the manner of shipping is what makes the difference in your case. Expeditied delivery is the way to go. Make sure it's packed in styro. Also plant needs to be wrapped in moist paper. It cannot be too wet or too dry.

Some species of val have very thick leaf and is not as sensiive to heat and moisture, as others.

And I'll quote "Jungle Val".

Hehe, seems most people only read the highlights and miss the details. Anyways I'd wait until temperatures stay above freezing myself. I'm in the central valley of California and we've been seeing temperatures in the 20s. Kinda keeping me from getting some stuff done atm too.

Check out Gatorboy's thread in the classifieds...

I got some coming also; seeing as how I live in Georgia, not too worried about the heat packs!

If they're sent via USPS priority mail and you'll be home to take the package inside immediately on delivery, I'd go for it (just ask him to insulate the packages). If you're still concerned and want the plants that badly, you can buy and send him a heat pack to include with your shipment.

you could ask if the package can be shipped in a insulated contaier(styrofoam?)

I have these cool small foam containers I use.
