Any opinions on when and where the best times and places are to dose a reef tank. (My light cycle 12:00PM ON - 10PM OFF) Currently I'm adding Calcium, Iodine, Stontium/Molybdenum, and Live Marine Phytoplankton directly to the tank, usually in the early morning, as prescribed. I feed the fish in the afternoon. Thoughts and opinions much appreciated.:)

Do you have a real need to be dosing all of that? Sure, calcium is a must, but iodine is debatable and strontium / molybdenum should easily be maintainable just through regular water changes with a good quality salt.

I always dose chemicals into our sump, pre-dissolved / pre-mixed in water before adding them. I haven't found that any particular time of day is better than others for dosing.

FWIW, I always feed in the late afternoon (between 5pm - 7pm), but I'm not particularly sure that matters either, unless you have nocturnal or overly shy critters in your tank and feeding later is more beneficial.

BTW, I hope your specific gravity is 1.024 and not 1.24... :)

Not to be picky, but you might want to consider changing the font size or combining some of the lines of your signature together. When your sig takes up 3x as much space as your post, it's too big and tends to become distracting. :D :dive2:

I was told by a guy I trust that the "industry answer" is you know dose this dose that but that the actual answer is just do weekly waterchanges with RO water and a high quality salt (I use coral pro or something), which is what I do, and the only additive I use is some 2 part buffer system I think by kent marine I believe it is. I dunno I've been slacking off in adding that because I don't have the test kits to moniter parameters and I don't want to over-dose.

My tank is seemingly successful on low-maintenance, but I don't have any really difficult corals yet either.

Thanks for the input. I'm happy to hear that I can skip the S&M. I do weekly water changes using Tropic Marine. The SG is indeed 1.024.
