Just got home with my new cichlids from LFS. None at the shop had any spots and they didn't in the bag at the counter. When I got home and got them into my aquarium after allowing to adjust to the temp first, noticed some yellowish spots on 3 out of 5 cichlids purchased. Are cichlids this easily stressed? I am new to them. How do you recommend you treat this.

Many of them do change color dramatically depending on their mood. If that's all it is, no treatment is really necessary. Just peace and quiet for a while. lol
It would help if you know what kind of cichlids you have; I'm sure someone here can give you information specific to your cichlids.

What kind of cichlids? Where on the fish are the spots? Can you take a pic? If they are africans and the spots are on the anal fin, could just be egg spots.

Spots are on what appears to be the anal fins, yellowish in color and there are no more this morning than was last night. They appear healthy. Will continue to watch. I am not sure whether african, etc. Will research that one. Thanks

are the fish yellow? or blue? i'm guessing they're African cichlids and yellow spots on the anal fin are normal.

It is on an orange one, a blue with black horizontal stripes, and on a blue and goldish colored one. Thanks for your input. Let me know if you think this is all it is based on my fish description. My LFS that I buy from is very reputable and large. They are great.

I would say that more than likely they are african cichlids with eggspots, given what you have said. Poke around here for more info.....

Spoke to LFS owner and he explained to me that most africans have these on there tails. I had not noticed them when I bought or I would have asked then. Oh well, they seem very healthy and happy in there new aquarium. Thanks for all the input.
