A hermit crab will want a cave, an undertank heater, and an aquarium with a top that retains humidity. A thermometer and humidity gage, both cheap. They also need a sand substrate, because they'll burrow into it when they molt. I wouldn't go with less than a five gallon tank, and even then provide some wood or some structure for them to climb on. Even though their brains are the size of the head of a pin I think they prefer the company of others - they like to stick together. It's funny to watch the pecking order when you have more than one. The "top dog" in my tank used to roll the others out of the way when he wanted to steal their spot. They really are very neat.
