Here is the low down - Male Betta has a rather large grain on his right pectoral fin and 1 other on his head, he has had 2 to 3 since I have had him, around 3 weeks, but they were only visible when the light had the right angle. Now, I have a female Betta in with him, they are getting to know each other as well as two Otocinclus. The other fish show no signs of Ich, but that of course can be misleading. He tends to swim all over the tank, in-between and over things, which most likely is a sign of rubbing. Today he built a bubble nest and he is eating regularly and with an appetite, he greets me when he sees me, no fin clipping. Now , please do not ask me about water parameters because I am checking them every second day, treating the water during water changes every two to three days. The tank is cycled so if he has Ich, I'm sure he brought it with him from the LFS. Please help me with advice concerning what I should do. The thing is I am very wary of chemicals such as Formaline, Malechite Green, Chelated Copper, Copper Sulphate and Potassium Permanganate all make me nervous, not only due to internal organ damage to the fish over the long run but also the carciniogenic and heavy metal issues. Salt and heat, Bettas maybe but the Otos, will the salt not burn them not to mention the heat fry them eventually, will the salt and heat no kill the plants? Should I put him in a salt bath and seperate him. If the other fish are not stressed will the Itch not find another host and eventually die. Now I know many of you have experience with this problem because i will sooner or later affect most of us at one time or the other. Please help!
