I just moved to Detroit too, and am searching for a good LFS also.

Hebdizzle, since you can't drive yet this may not help.
Marcomatt, you may be able to visit here. They are only open certain days and hours and have mostly cichlids in their 600 tanks. Check out http://www.wetthumbaquatics.com and tell them the Z-Man sent you when you visit. They are located in New Baltimore.

Thanks ZMan!!!

I live about 10 miles from that place, and my big tank is an African tank. :) I just looked over the website and I will be stopping by there in the next week or so to check it out.

There are TONS of good stores in the metro detroit area. I'm not sure where you are, but the garden city/westland area is probable the most concentrated I've found.

#1 is Wet thumb aquatics - If you can get there, get there. They will offer the best selection at the best prices.
They are only open on weekends, and give straight up wholesale prices. I've purchased some a1 quality royal blue discus there for $20 a piece.

#2 Cichlid World - On Ford Road in Garden City - just about the best selection I've seen. Some of their prices are high, but they've got a nice collection of fish. You have to look really close from the street because this place is a bodega for sure. No signs, no lights, and you gotta go in the back door. Here's there website: http://www.cichlidworld.net/ and Address: 27843 FORD RD. GARDEN CITY

#4 Jan's tropical fish - the only reason I suggest this place is that on sunday's all fish are buy one, get one free. It's pretty much a hit or miss joint, but a great spot for pleco's, plants and south americans. It's north of the telegraph rd and I-94 intersection

#5 Pet connection - just south of jans on telegraph and a really nice selection of fresh/salt.....

These are all the suggestions I have time for now, but if you'd like to email me, I have dozens more in my head that I could direct you to. mcdevit9@msu.edu is my add.

Good luck......
