View Full Version : Just tested my tap water
The tap water is absolutely perfect except the PH is through the roof.
Thought I would share.. just trying to figure out why my nitrates are so high.

What does thru the roof mean?
Did you let the tap water set out overnight in a shallow dish?
Got any more detailed info on your tank?

its always a better idea to post the numbers you got when testing.
I dont have a master test kit yet.. just the 5 in 1 strips.. so I dont know exact numbers.

the 'strips' are not very accurate and "through the roof" means nothing to anyone reading your post. need a number to advise you.

test strips are not very reliable.
what do you mean by "through the roof"? to a person with hard tap water like myself, 9.0 is through the roof. if your pH was low one day and then really high the next, it could be considered "through the roof" but if the pH of your tap water has not changed in years then its not really through the roof.

if you have a petsmart around you you can get one for $13. just take the printout from the web page into the store and they will price match it for you.

Ouch.. I just paid 15 for the strips from petco.. wish I had known that :(
And the PH is darker than the highest reading on the strip which is 8.4

is there a high range pH?
is there a high range pH?
8.0 to 8.4 say add ph minus
This is just my tap water though.. my tanks ph is fine.. I just thought it was odd that everything out of the tap showed as ideal range.

This is just my tap water though.. my tanks ph is fine if your tap water and tank water have a different pH, you need to understand why or you'll have fish problems. significant differences in pH when you do a water change is stressful to fish.
you still don't know what your pH is for either tank or tap however, if you've been using those strips.
