Hi, just hoping some of you guys might be able to help me out on this.

First off, I have about 15 medium sized cichlids in a 55g tank. (I will split them appart once they get bigger) I noticed a few of them have some small black spots on them and 1 in particular has a lot of them. And I dont know what they are or why they are there.

The second thing, I dont know if these came from the fish food or what, but I have tons of tiny bugs that stay on the glass(above water level) and I can sometimes see them jumping around ontop of the water if I look hard enough.

Anyone have any idea what these are and how to treat them? Maybe a link or something?

Thanks for your help, I will try to post pics of the two.

pics would help with the fish. some fish jsut have black spots, but there is a disease called bblack spot. it is parasitic and needs to be in a variety of hosts to compete its life cycle, one of which is fish-eating birds. im assuming you dont have and falcons, eagles, pelicans, or gulls in your house :D, and without this intermediate host, they will die off.

how big is a "medium" cichlid? what kind of cichlids? 15 of them in 55 gallons sounds like too many.

what is your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate reading.

how long have you had these fish.

the bugs sound like springtails (collembola) and are no problem to fish.
