Other news stations reported there were no aircraft in the area...

Quote from the website in case it changes, or is not available:

"Aliens, Atmosphere, or Airplane?

Tampa, Florida -- Neighbors heard a whistling sound is what they described before noticing that a neighbor's car was severely damaged.

The Ford Mustang had a 100 pound block of ice sitting in the backseat. The back end of the car was caved in. The only explanation from neighbors is the ice fell from the sky. Hillsborough deputies do not believe it was a criminal activity.

The 20-year-old owner of the car is upset and did not want to talk to Tampa Bay's 10 News. His father says he has not seen anything like it before.

Neighbors have pieces of the ice chunk in their refrigerators. The owner of the car is in possession of the major chunk of ice.

There was a time when people thought the Earth was 'flat'.
And so, maybe even now: http://www.alaska.net/~clund/e_djublonskopf/Flatearthsociety.htm

:D

The giant chunk of ice that hit the Mustang most likely was from an aircraft that was already well past the area.

But, if that was not the case - it sure is mysterious...

LOL theres no such thing as aliens

How can you be so sure? The universe is huge. Do you really think that in such a huge ginormous space, that this one little tiny planet is the only one with life?

As far as the ice, it probably fell off an airplane. But then that leaves you to wonder, what is an airplane doing in Florida with ice all over it? Or if it was carrying ice as cargo, how in the world did it fall off/out?

there has got be life SOMEWHERE out there.if not in our galaxy, the Andromeda galaxy, etc. i find virtually impossible that our planet was the only one that had the conditions to be able to harbor life, especially since there are trillions of planets in the universe.

National Geographic had two interesting articles last year about this subject. one was about mars, and how it looked a billion years or so ago, and it looked pretty similar to earth. the second was an article about planets that can be considered similar or identicle to earth. they are VERY far away and would take litterally ages to get too. they were millions of lightyears away... that means that if you traveled at the speed of light, it would take you a million years to be able to reach the planet. plus, the images that we are recieving are million of years old because it has taken that long for the light to get to our planet. who knows, by the time we get there, there could be a futuristic planet that is one giant city....

Airplanes tend to travel at 30,000 feet. That means ice can form or freeze even over florida. This is another one of those blue ice, or wing ice stories where a plane dumps water for some reason, it freezes, and then it falls to earth in a chunk. I used to live in a glide descent path for an airport in New Orleans, and we'd regularly get chunks of ice landing in the yard from planes. Laws and restrictions these days reduce the amount of liquid planes can dump in any but emergency situations, so big hunks these days are rare.
