Hi folks,
New here, I've been roaming the forum for 2 weeks now.
I've always been a fan of fishes. Me and my girlfriend just started our own fresh water aquarium, 20gallons tank.

The tank is almost fully decorated and we just starting up the water cycling process.

I've been wondering something about rocks.

Can you put rocks such as : jade, saphire and jewel-type?
I would boil them first, but just wondering if they would cause health problems later?

Thanks!

Hey Trankill,

Welcome to the board!! (From one Montrealer to another) :)

I'm not a pro in what types of rocks can be "bad" for a tank, but I'm sure there are others that can help you out.

post your question in General freshwater, where you'll get all the help you need!

Hello Welcome to AC! :hi: Pour vinegar on to the peice of rock that you intend you use. If it starts to bubble at all after a few minutes then it is no good for the tank because it will raize PH and KH. On the other hand if you have african cichlid's or marine fish then it could be good as you want a high PH and KH.
A couple of rocks to avoid off the top of my head are coral, lime stone and any sea shell's.

Will do this very soon!
Just came back from a shop where they sell those very cute green jade buddha. I think it's more glass than jade, because they where 5$ CAN for a 5" high statue.

But I'll do the vinegar test.
That's good to know!

sounds like its going to be nice. cant wait for some pics. welcome to ac.

For sure! I've borrowed my friend's polarizing filter to see through the glass and try to get some nice effects. So myself I can't wait to start posting up some pics!
