what do you all say? its for in my 55 gallon tank, but I am more apt to believe you all since he tried last week to tell me the UGF was the only way to go.
oh and he wants 75.00 for it  Millennium 3000

pic above is not the 3000, just a pic of a smaller size.

no way.

use the petsmart.com prices and overfilter your tank with two penguin 350s for $27 each. then you get the biowheel, well, four biowheels, and a lot of filtration for less than ONE of those filters.

No reason to spend that much on that filter when you can get 2 bio-wheels, 2 aquaclears, or 3 whisper filters of the same size for less money. Heck you could get a canister filter for less.

I'd probably do a pair of aquaclear 50 or 75s, but I echo the sentiment of using petsmart and pricematching their online price. Also Marine Depot (http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_filters_aquarium_systems_millenium_primo_ power.asp?CartId=) has the same filter for about $36. I kinda think this guy is just thinking to himself, ok what's the largest markup I have on a filter . . .

I was thinking of the Penguin as well. I can't imagine why the one your LFS suggested would be any better than others, especially for that price tag.

Hehe- good link above. Even if you decide to go with this specific one, I would buy it online no doubt.

i think next time you go there, tell him what you can find elsewhere, and for what price. he'll either stop trying to rip you off altogether because he now realizes that you are an informed customer and not an idiot, or he'll offer you a better price on products to keep your business.

yeah, this guys a real jerk, he is so over priced, and is hard headed. I told him I wanted a 55 galon tank, all he has is packages, I said no, I do not like the hood and do not want under water filter. he said oh well, thats what my tanks come with. see what I am up against?? it sucks!!!
I also think 2 back filters will do wonderful, he just wants to make big bucks !

It may also be a case in which he buys the 55g aquariums as a package deal himself. I tend to believe however this guy is just trying to make some money.

most lfs prices on filters are at lest double what online prices are.

Most LFS are going to be more expensive than any chain or online store. So you have to decide if you want to "support" that LFS. Sometimes you pay more at a LFS because you want to have a LFS to go to. I recently purchased a replacement bulb for $27. I know I could have bought it a chain for $17 and most likely ordered it for under $20 with shipping online. I like this LFS and get good information there, so the extra price was worth it.

With that said, if you do not like how you are being treated, do not buy from there. Try another LFS. If that does not work, Walmart has 55 gal kits for under $100. I think Petco and Petsmart also have starter kits at a reasonable price. Or buy the stuff seperate.

I would spend your money at a place that is acting like the place you have described.
