I have a 25 gallon tank. I was wondering about how many black skirt tetras i could put in there? I set up the tank for my mother and she fell in love with these tetras. The tank is cyled using bio spira and old media from an established tank. They will be the only fish in the tank.

5-6 if you want schooling behaviors

Ok cool, And if she wants another kind of tetra similar in size would the tank be overstocked with 4 or 5 of two different kinds?

It shouldn't be a problem but remember that if your mother is going to clean the tank it will be alot messier with more fish. But other wise it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

LOL that is my job haha. She just likes to look at them so i do the maintenance haha.

in a 25 gallon you could get away wiht about 15 of them i would say. That is if you did nothing but h. rasboras

I have a 29 with 8 black skirts, 8 red minors, 8 red minors with long fins and a dwarf red flame gourami. Looks nice and active.

for a 25 gallon with only black skirts, you could eaily fit 15 in there. there are albino forms and long finned normal/albino forms, which could help mix it up a little in the school. they will all school equally together.

stay away from red, blue, pink, or purple albino black skirts though. they are dyed. their names usually start out with something of a fruit or candy sort.
