STILL on the first stage of cycling, but have a question about using Prime. Anybody out there use Prime in a small tank?

I have a 2.5 gallon minibow tank, and keep extra water for water changes in a 1 gallon plastic jug (largest jug I can find). I'd like to treat the water in the 1 gallon jug so it's all ready for when I do water changes, but I can't figure out the correct measurements for using Prime in such a small tank. The bottle says to use 5 ml per 50 gallons, and after much conversion, the best I can figure out is that I should use approximately 1/16 of a teaspoon per 2.5 gallons, and very roughly 1/32 of a teaspoon for the 1 gallon jug. Now, how in God's name does someone measure this small of a dose out?? Use 1-2 drops out of an eyedropper to the 1 gallon jug? I'd rather not add it right to the tank once a fish is in there.

Either add 2 drops (~20drops=1mL, enough for 10g, so 2drops=1g)
& fill the jug or make a dilute solution from the Prime.

If you want to use 1mL per gallon, make a 5% solution of Prime w/ the cleanest water you can find (eg: 5mL prime, dilute to 100mL). For a 5mL/gallon solution, you would make a 1% solution from Prime (1mL > 100mL dilution).

Well, at 1 ml per 10g I have your dossage at .25ml. Your local pharmacies should have both 1ml and 5 ml droppers on hand. The ones I visit will often give you one if you ask and say you need them to dispence medicine for a child. The 1ml is the one you would want and it should be marked at the .25ml mark. If that doesn't work then you probably should buy the tiny prime bottle mentioned above.

Yep just go to your local Walgreens and grab a 1ml syringe. The 5 ml one is perfect for API test kits too for less mess.

I woudn't worry about being so exact....I have never heard of any ill affects from overdosing Prime, and, unless it is outrageously more than required, don't sweat it! I have used twice as much as required when I get sloppy on a late night water change with no ill affects whatsoever. So just "eyeball" a few drops in the cap and mix it in the jug...a drop more will not hurt!
