Hello everyone! I have a 100 gallon (6'x18"x19") and am trying to think of what else to add. Currently I have 3 clown loaches (small), 6 cories, 3 kuhlii loaches, 1 bristlenose pleco, 6 gold barbs and 2 blood parrots.
I think the tank looks good but I need to add some bigger fish in it to fill it out more. I was thinking of 2 angel fish. Would this be too overcrowded? I also kinda want to add about 20-30 cardinal tetras since they will look so good in a big school. But I would still want the angels for more of center piece fishes. If I was able to do this, I would add the cardinals first and then buy the angels at quater size so that they grow up with the cardinals and there will be less chance of them eating them when they get bigger.
My tank is planted and is run by a 300 Aqua Clear and a 2217 Ehiem. If you don't think I would be able to add the angels, is there any other larger fish I could add as well as the cardinals?
Thank you all so very much!

well, i think the angels will def have a go at the cardinals, but its just their nature. sure someone will ahve angels that wont, n they r the luky ones (unless you want agressive fish).
if you wanted some more suggestions mine would be blue rams and maybe try some rainbows, ie bosemanis etc.
hope this helps

How about some blue three-spot gouramis or pearl gouramis?

Maybe the pearl gouramis could work. Would my parrots give them a hard time?

i would get the angels. i dont think it would be over crowded at all. angels and blood parrets work ok together. and i think you could me neon or cardinal tetras, but you would have to probably get rid of the blood parrots. sometimes you can mix cardinals and angels, but sometimes they all dissapear. maybe if you kept the angels well fed...
pearls and blood parrots work fine. ive did it for a while, until my pearl commited suicide...

The guy at the fish store suggested buying about 6 cardinals that are full grown and add them to the tank at night when the other fish are getting ready to sleep. That way the cardinals can get used to their environment and will be comfortable by the time morning rolls around. He said that the parrots might leave them alone then. But if they don't, I will know not to get anymore cardinals and I could bring the 6 that I have already back. Do you think that this sounds like a plan?

I don't know if this will help at all but the parrots are about 3" each.

I have just decided that I will leave the angels for a future tank....gives me another reason to get a 4th tank!!! So with the anglels out of the picture, what are my other options on medium sized fish that I could add as well as the cardinals?
You all have been of great help thus far.

It sounds like you are looking to add to the mid and upper water levels of the tank. Look into rainbows. Several color choices, and easy keepers. They should be able to hold their own with the parrots, but won't threaten any of your other fish.
You might want to add 1-2 more clowns, if you will be able to accomodate the group as adults. They will be happier in a slightly bigger group.

Do you think that I will be able to house 5 full grown clowns in my tank? As well as the others I plan to add? That would be great! I will look into the rainbows on the web. Any other suggestions are still welcome.

It depends--the clowns will grow slowly, but it will depend on the other tank mates. 5 adult clowns, the pair of parrots, and a school of medium sized fish would be fairly stable, with diligent maintenance and care. I would be comfortable with it in my tank--but I do water changes once a week, plant heavily and feed lightly.

I wouldn't get angles because the barbs will kill them. Maybe a large school of zebra danios.
