Ok first real Salt water tank and i have got it going pretty good now, but have a concern. I bought some coral and frags from a local pet store and have noticed on one of my frags I have 3 different things growing on it very close. Should i be concerned! Is there a way to seperate them without death or will they be fine. I know what 2 of them are. One is a feather duster and a mushroom the other is a clear tentacle looking thing that seems only to be able to come out of the hole when the mushroom retracts.
Any ideas>>>
Thanks Michael

Hmmm...a picture and/or more detailed descriptions would definitely help here. The feather duster is not a threat/threatened, but the mushroom and other critter could be.

A worm a feather duster and a mushroom?
sounds fine...
Yea i know the clear-tubular looking thing hes talking about.
I have one on my new piece of LR. It almost lookes like a clear anemone that acts like a worm.
Need an ID on this, as I was seeking one myself.

I got 2 of them on different frags. I just saw this one last week when the mushroom contracted and was looking how small it could shrink.
I will try and get a good pic today and put up a link to a couple of pictures.

Aiptasia typically doesn't live in holes.
Let me know if this accurately describes your critter: Single, thin strand comes out, and sort of crawls along the rock, looking for little bits and pieces of detritus that it wraps up and pulls back into the hole. Never see any body, the tentacle seems to extend limitlessly. Zips back in if startled.
If so, don't worry. Can't give you a specific name, but they are common on live rock, and are harmless.

yes there are clear kinda look like worms,,they live all ove rmy rock..maybe the size of a thread? am i right?
OK, now the way you describe it , it doesn't sound like aiptasia. Those you shouldn't have to worry about.

I will get another pic tonight it looked like a clear anemone with almost light blue tips on the tentacles. They seem to be living fine so far but it is an interesting looking piece.....
Thanks for the input.....
I still think you got an Aiptasia. They do live in holes.

If what you have is what Orion said I don't have any problems with mine. I thought it was just one creature living underneath my rock. I referred to it as the great beast under the big rock cause this thing really builds up a network after a night, but I wasn't aware it could be several critters. To date I haven't seen nor found evidence of it pulling one of my hermits or such to their deaths.

I can't get a clear picture of the little sucker it is just too clear. I got one of those monsters and now lots of life forming up all over the place. The mushroom and the little anemone that live in the frag seem to be getting along fine. Now my new buerst of life are several white hollow things That are growing fast i will post a picture when they get at a good size for some ideas of what they could be.

White little tubes? Some coiled, some wandering around? Stony tube worms.

well its hard to tell from your first pic, aptasia can pull themselves compeletly inside the rock. im not saying for sure that they are it but they do have the ability to. i had gotten a leather frag and it has 2 or 3 of these things on the end of the rock they are completely clear. but i dont think they are aptasia i just havent found an id yet either.
here is a really good pic of an aptasia
