Do they really work all that well?

I haven't bought one yet, but I've upgraded to a 75 gallon and sticking my arm in to clean witht he scrubber is getting annoying. do they clean in one sweep? do you have to clean it a lot? is it worth the money?

They do a pretty good job. It all depends on how much algae has accumulated, if you have a thin layer then you can wipe them in one sweep, else you have to move it back and forth a couple of times. The only problem that I have observed is reaching the corners, I recently bought a algae pad with a long handle to take care of that.
 
I bought one of the cheapo walmart ones, and it worked ok, nothing impressive. I just bought a larger mag float, those things are great. It actually really hurt when the two pieces snapped together on my finger. I'm using mine on my 150 with 1/2" glass and its definitely strong enough to scrub the algae off. Sometimes it takes a bit of scrubbing back and forth, but it works very well.
 
They're great. I've got 4 of them, each in a different glass tank. True, you need a long-handled scrubber/scraper for the corners, but otherwise, they work as advertised, or even better, which is rare these days.

Thank You! I' think I'll be buying one...I've been letting the tank get too scummy cause I'm sick of roling up my sleeves and going in.
 
If you have a glass only aquarium, this is the way to go.....

It is a magnetic scraper with razor blades....been around for decades....will even take off coraline algae! Much faster and more efficient than the magfloats. Again, this can only be used on glass tanks.

Yeah...I don't know why they are harder to find these days...usually the older LFS will have them or you have to order them....one thing, wipe them off when you are done, they will rust over time, especially when you are using them in salt water....I've been using them since the 1970's !
