im new to this site and find it very interesting and im seeing alot of great answers here so i need some expert help.im hoping someone came help me decide the right light for my 3yr old 75 gallon marine tank.i want to get a new light and cant decide which one would be better so i want to let the pros tell me the one to buy.i want either the coralife 48inch 260 watt compact fluorescent or the 48inch nova extreme t-5 216 watt ho lamp.my instincts tell me to get the ho nova extreme.what is the better light to buy?????????

It all depends on what you are keeping...or want to keep in the future..Personally, i am a metal halide person...

if you want the more delicate corals and things like clams and lps and spf corals your gona need halides in combo with PCs but if you just want basic corals pcs are alright. my recommendation is go look and see what you like and then ask us what the corals would need or if they are compatable.
