Hello everyone.

I have just done a nitrate test on my RO water, and it seems to be 25ppm, about the same amount as the tap water, does this mean my unit might need replacing, or just one of the cartridges. I only bought this unit in January and I dont have very good water pressure.

thanks guys.

couple of things..how often do you use the RO unit? did you test the water as soon as it came out of the RO unit rather than throwing away the first few litres of water?? Typically, the first few litres out of the RO probably will be high in nitrates and other metals..I always throw the first few away...

No the water was already in the container, I make about 8g once a week, for a water change this takes about day and half, and then i flush it every other day, although i have'nt check the water coming straight out of the outlet pipe yet, (but i will test this in a mo). Also my 1 and half year old son keeps putting things in the container. ie. hairbrush, toothbrush, food anything he can get his hand really, and I wont notice it at least for a good few hours to a day, and i know this does not help.

Shall I always throw the first few liters away, and how much are we talking about.

yea man i was going 2 git a Ro/Di unit. and i have good water perssure do u have the same one or just a RO. do u have any problem with your nitrate cause i do and i have been useing my tap water 4 like 2 years now and just found out that it is no good.shoud i go out and spend $167 on a Ro/Di unit it is a 75 gal one is it good or na hit me back with a pm if u want 2 talk or im me at cullyisgully

Yothereyo....When-ever i use my RO unit, i throw away the first 3 litres...This is just water that has been sitting there in the membranes since it was last used...

Cully....I would always suggest using an RO or RO/DI unit...its always worth spending the money and giving the fish the best possible water you can...

A 75 GPD RO unit would be fine for you..

thanks atnixon, i have cleaned all the pipes and fittings too make sure nothing is blocked, just going to make a few liters to wash any detrius out, and then iam going to test.

Cully - check out ebay, there's tons.

Mines only 50gpd, but thats fine for me.

standlone RO unit is about 98-99% pure water, RO/DI is 100% pure water heance the price, but you can always upgrade later to a DI.

The RO will remove most impurities like heavy metals and chemicals ect, ect.

DI (deionization) will polish the water further.

The two combined will give you 100% pure water. - (sounds like some kind of superhero)
