Been outside all morning enjoying the sunshine.

BFM-Sorry about your river! One good thing about being in this part of Ky is that the creeks and rivers(that i've seen) are all beautiful. You can hardly pass one in the summer without a bunch of kids, big and small, out swimming. I've been known to jump in a few myself.:lipssealedsmilie: When my kids were small I used to take them all the time. No fancy beaches around here.lol
Too bad they won't try to clean your river up somehow.:confused:

I'm back !!!!!!

This was my first BB that I joined several years ago . I was very supprised to be able to reregister with my same username after so long of not being here.
I had a FO with wetdry filters back when I joined and today I have a pretty nice 300 gal (total water volume ) setup.
I learned alot here :)

Nice "FISH" Cam :) I've never seen one like that in Florida. I used to catch the ones that look like Naked Gobies in the canals when I was a kid. Those were fun days walking along the seawalls in the water turning over rocks and using a glass jar to catch them :) I kept a few back in the day .I loved how they could move their eyes in different directions LOL !

i caught him at one of my dads rental properties. water looks mucky there and its a pretty public area but iv also caught a peppermint shrimp there a while back, the moneys in the bumper tires strung in the water, but theres huge crabs and bristle worms in them too

You be careful during those storms Mark. It's very humid here too!
It seems to me that we can't just get a little rain shower, it always seems to be damaging storms! I mean I love to watch lightning but a plain old rain shower would be nice for a change!
cam-If you had to spray paint a bird cage what paint would you use if any? I bought two flight cages for $25 and they both have touches of rust on them. What can I use? Both cages are pretty nice except for that.

Believe it or not cam, i've already joined four bird forums.lol I was trying to get well prepared for a bird.
I seem to get conflicting information. Some say only use spray paint safe for children and some say don't do it at all. I was hoping since you seem to be a diy guy that you would know. Thanks though!

sigh, remove all the original paint and buy a child safe paint and primer. be sure not to get rust fighting paint tho. if you want my real recommendation, scrap the rusty cage and get shiny new one, a parrotlet will do lots of climbing and some of the paint will eventually chip off

My darling hubby is gonna build me a cage. Kinda like a small aviary. He just has to find the time to do it. I was gonna use this one for the porch. I did find this

The cage is powder coated. So I don't think I can get all that off. I'm thinking maybe I can just do touch ups on it and it will be okay.
The black cage has less rust spots but it has a hole in it for a breeder box. I might just end up finding a way to close it up and use it. I've read a nest of any kind with a single bird is a no-no.

Some of us are at work :) Man oh man , yesterday we were setting all kinds of heat records over here. It did get to 100 here in Ft Lauderdale. We never get to 100 because of the so called sea breeze. Well today woke up to what looked like a tropical depression , it was dark out when I left for work at 8 am and boy did it rain hard. It cleared up for most the rest of the day and then around 4 we got another monster line that looked like a tropical storm , Man !!!!!! At least it wasn't hot today :)

my dad was cleaning his 17 guns today, this is the first time iv seen them all. i shot this tiny handgun into the pool, and i went diving for bullets :D

otherwise its been a pretty dull day, but tomorrow im doing rounds at the pet stores, gunna change my shrimp tank to look like a japanese rock garden. i even made a little rake out of driftwood!

ehh, im good at what i do but no one else i know does it. my brother likes fishing, cars, dirtbikes, that generic stuff and he has a ton of friends. i cant really get into that stuff so i haven't really made any friends since i moved. i had a lot of friends in ohio who understood me but of coarse i moved here, thats why im always so crazy about going there. whenever i get an idea in my head about something good, my subconscious makes me think it will inevitably happen, i just realized moving back is just one of those mind tricks. and my family was so normal there, now were falling apart. i suppose im just worried about the future...

Thanks guys.
I sort of expected it. He's on the lower end of the autism spectrum. As premature as he was if this is the only thing wrong with him I am still grateful. He was three months early. He weighed 1pd 12ozs when he was born. He was a very sick little guy. Now he is healthy and he is very intellegent. He doesn't say but a few words but he can figure out a video game in no time flat.
He is enrolled in the preschool program here and can start in August when he turns three.
In my heart I know that he will overcome these obsticles that are put in front of him. He's already overcome a bunch already.
I've heard there are people that are autistic but you wouldn't know it if they didn't tell you. That's what I am praying for.
Regardless, he is very loved and this just makes him that much more special to us.

so i had my local forum bbq today. it was a blast!!!!! got to put faces to names, had some wonderful eats, great conversation, the weather was perfect, all the kidletts played nicely together, traded off some of my unused equipment, and came home with a free emperor 280 filter and enough free gravel to change out my cichlid tank substrate! (and i don't care if there's a lil clown puke mixed in, hahaha) Woot!!!!!!!!! and i even got me a tan finally!

and the cop that gave us hell for driving the truck on the grass at the park to load up the bbq after didn't even give us a ticket! yay! lol.

Tina, I just watched a program on PBS that had a guy with Autism that plays the piano. He was amazing. The program showed how music was a big part of many different people with certain disabilities.
I haven't checked it out on their website but if you go to PBS.ORG you might be able to find it . It was called musical minds or something like that .

i have made peep toys, but they never really wowed her. not to mention peep loves to destroy things, and i cant really make anything that can stand up to her. a parrotlet would be more appreciative of homemade toys with such a tiny beak :D

Hi all, HAPPY 4TH. Nice birdie Tina.
Talking about cories, I have about 40 in my tank and they never breed(the water stays to warm). When I had half of them in my old 120 inthewall they would breed all the time . Temperature has everything to do with them breeding. The 120 was set up with a chiller so I could keep it cooler . When I would do water changes they would spawn. I also had a bunch in my old 30, the tank was under an ac vent and they spawned every week. I tried to grow out several hundred but went away for a week and lost them.
I have 10-15 that were born in my old 120 that hid in thick chainswords and survived .


Oh , I got my new FX5 installed yesterday !!!!! :)

80 is a good temp but usually a large water change will set them off if ya know what a mean:evil_lol:

i did some research and yes, the consensus is that a large water change with a bit cooler water will induce them to lay eggs. i have not done a water change in this tank since i brought them home. the only change of water was on wednesday when they went from their lfs water in the bag to the water in the tank, so i guess that was enough to get them in the mood, lol.

almost 24 hours after eggs laid and the parents havn't eaten them all! woot! off to get a breeder net today, don't want my first chance at being a finkid grandma to be all for naught!

I added , well actuall it was already there , I have a coralife double 96 watt pc that I managed to squeeze in the back of my tank a few weeks ago. I was only able to use 1- 96 though because of space restrictions. I removed the front lids on my tank and was able to shift everything towards the front and now have the 2'nd 96 in use . I finally have 422 watts :) I've been trying to get the center of the substrate filled in with chainsword the last few weeks adding root tabs and excel and doubling the fert routine.Looks like it's really paying off :) I also removed the hydrilla that I tried , the stuff just grew to fast and was long and stringy, having to trim every couple days :(

You can see my floatvalve here also , tubing running through the wall , makes water changes a breeze . And I also finished with the mosquito growout project, got about 60 females and 10-15 males . Tank is LIVELY :)

I don't leave the water on , I used to worry about an accidental flood all the time. I have it running to a closet where it's connected to what used to be my R.O. . I just removed the R.O. membrane and have the 3 sections of the filter in use with filters and carbon . I usually top it off once a week in between water changes by adding a little prime . When it was R.O. water I left it on all the time to top itself off.

the thing with R/O water is that all the good minerals and such that your fish need are removed too, so you need to put those back into the water before you add the R/O water to your tank. i myself don't use R/O, just good old tap water and dechlorinator.

I do have a bunch of them Cam . Also in regard to the R/O , it got to expensive to keep adding R/O right to the water so I switched to regular tap water .Using prime water conditioner is a lot cheaper. I originally got the R/O unit for when I had my full blown hard corals. Dosing calcium and regular water changes with sea salts added everything needed back to the water. Also it's alot faster to do water changes now, the R/O unit took all day to fill the tank. Also Cam , if you look at my last pic of my tank you can see a couple of the spotted ones. I have about 10.

It rained all weekend here. So not so many fireworks. The grandson and I sat on the porch swing and watched the neighbors shoot theirs tonight. He had a blast.

Radar-Thanks. I think he's gonna be a charmer. I spoke with the breeder tonight and he is five weeks old. I've spent most of the day making toys for him so I guess he will be just as spoiled as all the other critters I have.

Thanks Mark. He wasn't sick. He was in the aviary with some cockateil babies and they trampled the poor little fellow to death. Poor little guy. The breeder is such a nice fellow. He emailed another breeder he knows to see if they had any. He said they don't check their mailbox for days though. For now I will just keep searching and waiting. I've still got a lot of toys to make. I might even have time to buy that nice new shiny cage that cam talked about. Things happen for a reason.

the trees are pretty small oaks, like 15 inches around the trunk. were moving them to the back, and replacing them with fruit trees. grapefruit, lemon, lime, orange, mango, APRICOT!!!, not sure if pomegranate would work, the trees are auto watered tho

i went to point of rocks beach yesterday, theres no other beach like it, the rocks are like worn down concrete slabs so they're all holey and covered in sponges and fire corals. its like your in ireland when your there.

only good pic out there, doesn't show any of the cool parts but you can see rocks just above the water line in the distance.

i went to my spot yesterday, caught another goby, a huge pistol shrimp, and a tiny peppermint shrimp.

i had a very long dream last night where i was driving around to lfs's with my lionfish, and there was a weird dog in the basement and some crazy squirrel army and an bad arse no nonsense exterminator too, and someone hid my pepperoni in the garage fridge but the garage was full of trash bags full of junk so i couldn't get it. i just got a new bed so maybe thats it....
